Frederic
Buyle was born in 1972. Since his childhood he has been in contact
with the sea, spending several months a year on the family sailboat.
At the age of 10, he discovered free diving and spear fishing.
After
some years of practice, he became a Padi and Cmas scuba diving instructor
and started to teach free diving in 1991. Then, two years after completing
publicity and communication studies, he set his 1st world record
in 1995 and decided to dedicate his life to free diving and began
to travel the world. He achieved two more world records in 1997 and
1999. The same year, Frederic passed the 100m's mythical barrier
in no-limits. He is the 8th person to do it. In 2000, he set his last
world record and initiated a research program about free diving.
Since then, Frederic keeps on travelling to free dive and teach free diving
all over the world. In 2002, he started underwater photography to be able
to show everybody the beauty of free diving and the underwater world.
To
take his pictures, he uses the simple formula: the water, available
light, a camera, and one breath. A free diver is able to capture unique
moments thanks to his simple equipment and ease of movement. Frederic has
been taking pictures down to 50m on a single breath on remote locations
where scuba divers can access. Loyalty Islands, North Pole, and offshore
pinnacles are some examples. To do so, compact and strong equipment
is a must. His choice since the beginning was Aquatica housings for his
digitals cameras.
